Groundwater often contains excessive iron and manganese, while drinking water with high iron and manganese content for a long time is harmful to human health. When the iron content in the water is high, the water has an iron smell, which affects the taste of the water. As production water for paper making, textile, printing and dyeing, chemical industry and leather, the quality of the product will be reduced; Yellow or brown stains will appear when washing clothes; Iron sediment will grow iron bacteria, block the pipeline, and sometimes red water will appear. However, the problem of water with high manganese content is similar to that of water with high iron content. In the industrial field, too high iron and manganese content in water will corrode the equipment to a certain extent and shorten the service life of the equipment</ p> <p>According to China's drinking water quality standards, all drinking water with iron content greater than 0.3 mg/L and manganese content greater than 0.1 mg/L must be purified. The iron and manganese removal equipment is mainly used for underground water with high iron content. The treated water in high manganese areas meets the national drinking water standards.

 Iron and manganese removal equipment

● Process principle

Dissolved iron and manganese in groundwater generally exist in the form of low valent Fe2+and Mn2+. Under the condition of pH value of 6.8~7.2, the high valent iron and manganese compounds are coagulated and settled, and can be removed by filtration. This equipment uses natural manganese sand as the filter medium. The principle of iron removal is that divalent iron ions in groundwater are adsorbed by the biofilm covered on the surface of the filter material after aeration and filtered through the filter layer, oxidized by dissolved oxygen under the catalysis, and adsorbed on the filter material, oxidized to generate ferric oxide, participate in the new catalytic reaction as a new filter membrane, and backwash the excess oxide after one cycle of operation of the produced water. The principle of manganese removal is the same as above. Due to the principle of ion selective absorption, the filter layer removes iron first and then manganese.

When the iron bearing groundwater is filtered by the natural manganese sand filter, the manganese sand filter plays two roles on the iron in the water:

1. Catalysis and oxidation, accelerate the oxidation of ferric iron in water to ferric iron.

2. The interception and separation function is to separate the iron from the water and retain it in the filter layer. These two functions are generally completed at the same time in the manganese sand filter layer.

● Process flow

1. When the concentration of iron in the groundwater is 5~10mg/l, and the concentration of manganese is 1~2mg/l, or when the groundwater contains only iron but no manganese, and the concentration of iron is about 10mg/l, aeration single-stage iron and manganese removal filtration can be used. Process flow: groundwater → deep well pump → aeration device → water tank → filter pump → iron and manganese removal device → reservoir → water user.

2. If the underground water contains high iron and manganese, that is, iron is more than 10mg/l and manganese is more than 2mg/l, aeration two-stage iron and manganese removal filtration should be adopted.

Typical process flow: groundwater → deep well pump → aeration device → water tank → filter pump → primary iron and manganese removal device → secondary iron and manganese removal device → reservoir → water user

● Process characteristics

1. The professionally designed water distribution device and water collecting device can ensure uniform water distribution and collection in any form of water inflow, increase the filtration efficiency of the effective filter layer, and ensure that normal filtration and backwash regeneration are even without dead corners.
